Are you unsure about the value of patents for your business? Do you find them complex and costly? In a book about how today's innovators navigate the IP landscape, European Patent Office patent examiners Philippe Lahorte and Daniel Preller share their insights on setting entrepreneurs on the path to high growth. Building a business potentially worth millions without an IP strategy is a luxury they cannot afford, they argue. From the other side of the table, they share insights into the patent granting process and showcase their commitment to helping innovators realize their visions. ● IP can help you not only to exclude others from using your technology, but also broadens your options by allowing you to make deals with others, e.g. cross-licensing. ● Taking a holistic view on intellectual assets and combine different types of IP rights strengthens the venture's position. ● An effective IP strategy will allow you to define, acquire, manage and leverage those IP rights that are right for you, and which directly support your business model and strategy. ➡️ In their article What entrepreneurs can expect from EPO patent examiners, the authors highlight the value of IP and give unique insights into their work as patent examiners. The World Health Organization estimates that cancer is one of the leading causes of death under the age of 70 in more than 100 countries, and its burden is expected to continue increasing. Start-ups and universities are often the first ones to develop new diagnostic approaches, drugs, and treatments and collaborate closely in conducting research and clinical trials. Therefore, it is crucial to help them understand how IP can lay a foundation for business ventures in one of the most complex fields of innovation: fighting cancer: ● IP gives them the agility to adapt their business strategy as they continue developing their invention and explore how it is going to be used. ● An IP strategy allows them to prioritize which IP rights to pursue and where. ● The right mix of IP rights allows them to get the funding they need in each stage of the development. Thomas Bereuter, CLP and Ilja Rudyk from the EPO along with case study authors Adéla Dvořáková, Bowman Heiden, Dr. John P Mc Manus and Ciaran O’Beirne collaborated on this article published in a book of Winning with IP, reviewing the three EPO cancer case studies. ➡️ Read the full article summarizing the key learnings from the journey of OncoQR ML GmbH, Oncomark and Damae Medical at: https://lnkd.in/dq7UvzWf Sarah Grant, Christoph Behrens, Lukas Bischoff, Andrea Schüßler, Samuel Deschamps, Mathias Karlhuber, Robert Klinski [羅克林], James Cooper, Hartmut Schütte, Daniel Engelen, Dr. Jens Pilger, LL.M. , Dr. Oliver Baldus LL.M., Jörg Kohlschmidt, Lan Bi, Friedrich Emmerling, Albrecht Von Menges André Guder Ilya Kazi Adam Jolly #MedicalScience #CancerResearch #InnovationCaseStudies #technologytransfer #IPforSMEs #highgrowthtechnologybusiness
